Police said Tuesday that they have confiscated the money the farmer buried in his field in Gimje, about 160 miles south of Seoul.
The 52-year-old farmer who buried the money in his garlic field has been arrested on Monday. The suspicion is that the farmer‘s brothers-in-law actually ran the illegal gambling operation, and they had given the money to the man to hide for them because authorities were investigating them.
The Independent reported that Lee’s two brothers-in-law, one in prison and the other on the run, had asked him to hide the money.
The amount buried could be significantly higher, due to the financial records seized. In all, police believe there is $15 million total. They actually found another $1 million in a rental car and $100,000 in an apartment.

That was a big favor to ask, and it is too bad that the farmer actually hid the ill-gotten gains for his in-laws.
