Foreign ministry confirms deaths of 5 Koreans in Oregon bus crash

The foreign ministry confirmed on Jan. 1 that of nine people killed in a tour bus crash in Oregon, the U.S., five are South Korean nationals.

“Five of the nine killed in the accident that occurred in Oregon are Korean nationals and the remaining four are U.S. citizens,” the ministry said.

The ministry said of 26 people injured, six are Korean nationals and 12 are foreigners, adding that work is underway to identify the nationality of the remaining eight people.

Most of the people killed or injured were residents in the U.S., it said.

The ministry said the bus was carrying 48 people, when it lost control on an icy highway in eastern Oregon.
