A group of Korean scientists have developed an environment-friendly vehicle fueled by a mixture of liquid ammonia that produces no greenhouse gases and gasoline, according to the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning on Tuesday.

Liquid ammonia accounts for 70 percent of the fuel used in the car, which means that the emission of carbon dioxide, the main culprit of global warming, is reduced by 70 percent, the ministry said.

The vehicle was developed by a team led by Drs. Kim Jong-nam and Woo Young-min of the state-run Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER).

The car can run at a speed of 60-80km per hour, the institute said.
