President Park Geun-hye Friday called for the construction of "Silk Road Express (SRX)" which links South Korea with Europe via North Korea, Russia and China.

The contemplated SRX starts from South Korea's southeastern port city of Busan and goes through North Korea, Russia, China, Central Asia and Europe.

In her speech during the "Conference on International Cooperation in the Era of Eurasia which was held at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul, Park asked for making Europe and Asia one continent, namely Eurasia, to open a new era.

"Let's build a combined logistics network by linking roads and railways in northeastern Eurasia and link it with Europe eventually," she said.

President Park then proposed that the SRX be linked to a new Arctic route.

Park said what is also of importance is to build an Eurasian energy network.

She stressed the need to construct energy infrastructure, including an electricity network, gas and oil pipelines, in a region where energy-producing and consuming countries co-exist.

Park called for Eurasian energy cooperation through joint development of shale gas in China and petroleum gas in the Eastern Siberian region.
