Netherlands, Chile advance to Round of 16 of 2014 World Cup

The Netherlands and Chile advanced to the 16-team knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil on Wednesday (local time), after defeating Australia and the defending champion Spain, respectively.

In a Group B preliminary round game in Porto Alegre, the Netherlands defeated Australia 3-2 to reach the second round.

In another Group B match in Rio de Janeiro, Chile defeated Spain 2-0 to join the Round of 16.

The two teams will compete next Tuesday for the top spot in the group.
