The CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment Tuesday (local time) announced a limited theatrical release of a Hollywood comedy about the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, beginning Christmas Day.

Michael Lynton said that "The Interview" starring James Fanco and Seth Rogen will be released in a number of theaters on Christmas Day.

Last week, Sony canceled its planned Christmas Day showings of the North Korea farce in the wake of threats against moviegoers by the Sony hackers. The hackers demanded that Sony cancel plans to release the movie.

The showings of the film were originally scheduled for October, but were delayed due to North Korea's strong protests following the trailer's release in June.
