The Pittsburgh Pirates reached an agreement Monday (local time) with South Korean power-hitting shortstop Kang Jung-ho on a four-year deal worth approximately $16 million (approximately 17.35 billion won), U.S. sports channel ESPN reported, quoting a source.

The deal also has an option for a fifth year, the source was quoted as saying.

Kang, 27, is scheduled to arrive in Pittsburgh to undergo a physical examination on Jan. 15-16, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

Kang hit .356 with 40 home runs and 117 RBIs in 501 plate appearances last season for the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO).
