South Korea's domestic and international airline traffic grew 7 percent in 2014 from the previous year, aided by the robust growth in Chinese tourist arrivals and a rise in the number of South Korean travelers going abroad, the transport ministry reported on Wednesday.

The number of arriving and departing flights handled at airports nationwide reached 623,000 (a daily average of 1,715 flights) last year - 413,000 international flights, up 8.4 percent from a year ago, and 213,000 domestic flights, up 4.4 percent, the report said.

Jeju International Airport saw its flights rise 10.9 percent on-year in 2014, while flights at Incheon International Airport, the main gateway to South Korea, increased 6.8 percent.

For the past five years, the country's airline traffic has grown an annual average of 6.6 percent, higher than an earlier estimate of 4.7 percent, according to the report.
