Samsung moved up four notches to third place for corporate reputation among the 100 most visible companies, according to the Harris Poll Reputation Quotient (RQ) study published Sunday Local time).

Samsung outperformed all other technology companies, such as Apple and Google which ranked ninth and 10th, respectively.

In 2012, Samsung placed 13th in corporate reputation, while Apple was No. 1 and Google, No. 2.

“Samsung has steadily climbed up the ranks in recent years with consumers rating it among the 5 best on key reputational dimensions of products and services, emotional appeal, financial performance and vision and leadership. Apple’s performance, while still excellent, has fallen 5 points since 2012,” says Carol M. Gstalder, reputation & public relations practice leader for Harris Poll.

Samsung was the only non-U.S. company included in the top 10. Sony at 13th was the second-highest ranked Asian company on the list.

Retailer Costco ranked No. 4, up from No. 6 in 2014, whereas pharmaceutical, consumer packaged goods and medical devices manufacturer Johnson & Johnson and grocery manufacturing and processing conglomerate Kraft placed fifth and sixth, respectively, said the annual study which was conducted online among 27,278 U.S. respondents from Oct. 20-Dec. 18, 2014.

L.L. Bean, which specializes in clothing and outdoor recreation equipment, came in seventh, while supermarket chain Publix Supermarkets ranked eighth.
