Samsung Electronics and Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday they have agreed to end their patent dispute, without giving details of the agreement.

"Samsung and Microsoft are pleased to announce that they have ended their contract dispute in U.S. court, as well as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration," said a statement jointly issued by Jaewan Chi, Samsung's executive vice president and global legal affairs and compliance team, and David Howard, Microsoft’s corporate vice president and deputy general counsel.

The statement, however, gave no details on the accord, by saying: "Terms of the agreement are confidential."

Microsoft had filed a lawsuit against Samsung with a New York court in August last year after failing to resolve differences over a 2011 royalty agreement with Samsung. In response, Samsung filed a petition for arbitration with the Hong Kong office of the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC in October.
