SNU student becomes Asia-Oceania champion in student category of steelChallenge contest

Cho Da-hee, a student of Seoul National University (SNU), became the Asia-Oceania champion in the student category of the ninth steelChallenge contest organized by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 

A team consisting of Wei Yongping and Wang Yongxu, both from China's Chongqing University of Science and Technology, won the top award in the student category, while the highest prize in the category for young steel industry employees went to Wang Ye from Baosteel Group Corporation in China, worldsteel announced.

Eight finalists participated in the annual contest held in Brussels, Belgium, on Feb. 11. The task was to produce high strength structural steel for construction at the lowest total cost using the basic oxygen steelmaking simulation available on steeluniversity.org, according to worldsteel. An application of this steel is the structural components for high-rise buildings.

They were selected from among 1,922 contestants in 34 countries around the world, it said.
