The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that consuming marijuana-infused edibles may be potentially dangerous as evidenced by the death of the 19-year-old Levy Thamba Pongi who ate a marijuana cookie.

Pongi skipped the clerk's advice that the marijuana cookie should be split up and consumed by small portions. Instead, he ate entirely marijuana cookie that had been purchased from a licensed and legal pot shop in Colorado.

According to experts, consuming marijuana edibles rapidly contains potential risks due to its delayed effects (1-2 hours) as opposed to smoking it (5-10 minutes).

Initially, Pongi did not show any effects, but around 3 and half hours later, he went outside the hotel room and jumped over the balcony railing, subsequently falling to his death.

According to the CDC report, the main reason leading to his death based on autopsy was marijuana intoxication with a high blood level.

The CDC suggested that it is important to draw attention to the potential danger associated with marijuana edibles and their delayed effects.
