Africa, Latin America and Asia stand to benefit immensely from the second tranche of support from the Chinese government for agriculture development and food security, a U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) official said Thursday.

Sourakata Bangoura, south-south and triangular cooperation officer at the FAO African Regional Office in Accra, made this known to Xinhua following a new US$50 million agreement between China and the FAO.

The deal, he said, was to support developing countries in building sustainable food systems and inclusive agricultural value chains.

Since FAO's South-South Cooperation initiative was established in 1996, China has been one of the major players in supporting Africa and other developing countries with expertise, inputs and techniques.
