South Korea climbs 4 notches to 53rd in FIFA rankings

South Korea moved up four notches to 53rd place in the FIFA rankings released on Thursday (local time).

Iran placed 39th, becoming the highest-ranked Asian country; Japan 55th; Australia 58th; and North Korea 129th, one notch below Kuwait, which will face South Korea in the regional FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament. Lebanon, Myanmar and Laos, which are also in Group G of the tournament, ranked 140th, 163rd and 179th, respectively.

Argentina retained the top spot, whereas Germany ranked second, outpacing Belgium. Portugal and Colombia placed fourth and fifth, respectively, while Spain jumped five spots to sixth. Wales moved up one notch to eighth place, two spots ahead of England.
