'The Martian' tops S. Korean box office for 2 consecutive weeks

Hollywood sci-fi epic "The Martian" topped South Korea's box office for two consecutive weeks, data showed Monday.

The blockbuster attracted 819,588 viewers over the weekend (between Oct. 16 and Oct. 18), according to the data compiled by an integrated ticket sales computer network run by theaters nationwide.  

The film grossed 6.82 billion won, or a 46.5 percent share in the local box office during the three-day period, the data said.

Since its release in the country on Oct. 8, the movie has drawn more than 3.1 million moviegoers, earning over 25.4 billion won. Directed by Ridley Scott, the film stars Matt Damon.   

Hollywood comedy "Intern" ranked second with 317,223 viewers, followed by South Korean action thriller "The Advocate: A Missing Body" with 222,764 moviegoers and English-language French action thriller "The Transporter Refueled" with 93,771 viewers, the data said.
