"Phone," which opened Oct. 22, grossed 31.8 percent of the total ticket sales nationwide during the three-day period, compared with 29.5 percent for "Martian," according to the data compiled by an integrated ticket sales computer network.
The former starring actor Son Hyun-joo drew 613,242 moviegoers during the period, while the latter starring Matt Damon attracted 534,870 viewers, the data said.
"Martian" had topped South Korea's box office since its release Oct. 8. As of Sunday, it drew 3.94 million viewers.
South Korean mystery thriller "The Exclusive : Beat the Devil's Tattoo" ranked third with 16.2 percent (312,321 viewers), followed by Hollywood comedy "Intern" with 11.2 percent (212,595 viewers).
