24 hours of Isis terror – From Beirut to Paris

The atrocities of Islamic State (Isis) in Paris Friday are the main focused news around the world. But it was not the only terrorist attack carried out by the Isis this week.

Beirut, Lebanon was hit first on Thursday. A double suicide bombing ripped through a busy shopping district during a rush hour. According to Lebanese officials, at least 43 people were killed and more than 200 people wounded, which was the worst terrorist attack in recent years.

Soon after the bombings, Isis made a statement claiming its responsibility for the attack. The group said it targeted Shiite Muslims whom the Isis viewed as apostates. Isis also claimed that the attack was targeted at Hezbollah, the Shiite militant organization supporting the Syrian government in its civil war.

Baghdad was hit next on Friday morning. An Isis agent conducted a suicide bombing at the funeral of pro-government Shia fighter killing at t least 18 people and wounding 41. Later at night, Paris was hit with coordinated attacks in six different part of the city leaving 129 dead with over 350 people wounded.

The news of terrorist attacks shook the world, not only because it left a huge scar in the heart of France, but its precise and coordinated attacks. Isis bombings have been frequent lately, but it was series of independent incidents, which relied mostly on suicide bombings. According to A SBS report, governments officials whose countries are under threat of Isis is alerted by the group’s attack is getting more militarized and organized, making it hard to prevent.

The French government, in coalition with U.S., launched ten fighter jets to bomb Isis stronghold on Sunday. A French official said that “20 bombs were dropped. A command center, recruitment complex including training camp for jet fighters, and a munitions depot was destroyed.”

The manhunt for remaining terrorists and its accomplices are being carried out in France and its neighboring countries. The government stated the war on terror will be carried out “mercilessly.”
