“We do not have many movies which involve mountaineering in Korean film industry, So I thought I would do it for the curiosity”

A Korean actor Hwang Jung-min recalled his memory at the production briefing of “The Himalayas”, November 9th. The movie, which part of it actually filmed in the Himalayas, is a heartwarming story about a Korean expedition team aiming to recover their fallen colleague entering Himalayas’ death zone.

The filming took place in the Himalayas, Mont Blanc – Swiss, and mountains of Korea. The actors and filming crew had to face challenges as the environments were extreme.

Hwang, the protagonist, said, “At the start, I thought it will e fun. But it was not easy as I thought it would be.” He continued, “We did not actually go up to the 8,000 kilometer – high point which we did in the film, but It was really hard for us. I regretted to having such naive thoughts.”

Another reason that made Hwang appear in the movie was the director. Lee Suk-hun had worked with Hwang in his previous film the “Dancing Queen,” and the fact the most of the crew from the Dancing Queen was also working as the Himalayas was very exciting,” Hwang added.

The Himalayas will be in cinemas starting next month.
