Naver Corp. the largest internet company in Korea is to add navigation feature to its “Naver map” app. The app, released in 2010, had all the features such as searching & matching a route to a designated destination, search by address, public transport search and store search. But Naver Map did not have a real-time navigation feature for drivers.

Finally, Naver’s adding the navigation feature to its app. According to Lee Gun-soo, the head of task force team of “Oxygen” a part which is in charge of O2O (Online to Offline) business of Naver, the feature will be added at the end of November.

“To provide the users with endless experience while filling in the blank spots in the mobile industry, Naver is going to introduce new services,” Lee announced at “Naver CONNECT 2015”, held at the Seoul Grand Intercontinental Hotel, Tuesday.

Naver, managing its Naver Map app for five years, has vast information and knowledge in the field of creating / applying different sources of information to increase user experience and help business partners such as advertisers.

“Naver had been working hard to create a better map service,” he said. “Kakao’s navigation app ‘Kimgisa’ and SK Planet’s ‘Tmap’ is in a legal dispute over intellectual property rights. But Naver is in no need for such trouble. With our well-developed map database, we will not be involved in such dispute.” He added.

The navigation service, however, is likely to be added as a key feature of Naver Map app, instead of being released as an independent app.
