Korean men’s life expectancy has closed its gap with the women’s over the years but still, they are more prone to cancer compared to women. The Korean National Statistical Office’s study Indicates.

According to the study by the National Statistical Office, last year’s newborns are to live a half year more than the babies born in 2013. The male newborns’ life expectancy is 79 years old and female’s 82.4 years old.

The gap between male and female is closing since 8.4 years were recorded in 1985.

The Statistical Office sees the study result as numbers of males taking great care in their health are rising over the years. According to an official, men are drinking less and smoking less in order to keep fit and healthy.

“Also, cases of men’s death caused by liver failure are diminishing over the years,” said the official.

But in cases of deaths caused by cancer, Korean men are faced with bigger risks than women. The study result says that rate of men’s death caused by cancer is 28.4 percent. The rate is 11.5 point percent higher than women’s.

A medical expert explained the numbers. “Because we are still living in a society where men are taking bigger burden as a leader of a family, they are more exposed to stress caused by overworking, too much drinking, and smoking.”
