Ex-national football coach joins Chinese club

With Chinese football clubs eyeing on South Korean Football managers to improve their game, Former national football head coach Hong Myung-bo joined a Chinese club.

Hangzhou Greenhouse FC is the new home of Mr. Hong. The club announced Wednesday that the Korean football legend signed a two-year contract. According to the club, Mr. Hong visited China on Wednesday to close the deal with the club.

Former national team captain, Mr. Hong is considered as one of the most skilled Korea football players. He coached the South Korean football team and achieved a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

“After a long consideration, we have decided to hire Mr. Hong” Hangzhou Greenhouse FC said on their website, along with a message “Welcome to Hangzhou, Hong Myung-bo”.

The football club also expressed its expectations from the coach. “Being one of the famous players in Asia, and having led South Korea to a bronze medal in London Olympics, we hope Mr. Hong to help us achieve better results next season.”

Hangzhou Greentown FC competed in the second division from 2001 to 2006 and earned its card to the Chinese Super League in 2007. In the season of 2015, the club finished 11th among 16 clubs.

In preparation for the next season, a handful of Chinese football clubs was eager to hire South Korean football coaches. Mr. Hong is the third coach to join the Chinese Super League. The other two are Park Tae-ha (Chanbaishan FC) and Chang Woe-ryong (Chongqing Lifan FC).
