In October 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the creator and license owner of Star Wars franchise for U.S$ 4.05 billion. Some believed the price was just too much, but looking at the big picture with the release of the new Star Wars film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (TFA) last week, it just seems so right.

TFA broke a series of movie records over the last weekend. According to Disney, the movie set a new U.S. domestic debut record with an estimated $238 million. The previous record holder was “Jurassic world” with 208.8 million.

Plus that, the new Star Wars film broke more U.S. domestic records, including the biggest-single-day- gross of $120.5 million. Worldwide, the movie earned estimated $520 million over the first five days of its opening.

But dollars from the movie is not everything. TFA’s limited editions of everything from a lightsaber-themed pen to hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of custom made goods bring a great deal of license fees to Disney.

There’s more. With more movies following ATF scheduled in upcoming years and of course, more goods and contents created, Disney will definitely make the most out of the Star Wars franchise.
