Two of the most anticipated films of 2015 to be released – “Hateful Eight” and “The Revenant” have its screeners leaked to piracy sites. The screeners were leaked during a process of having it sent to the voters for awards and consideration.

According to IT forensics and online copyright specialist group Excipio, both screeners of the films are spreading fast on the internet. Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Revenant attracted over 739,580 unique IP addressed downloading the film in the last 24 hours. The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino’s film drew 569, 153 IP addresses.

Experts of the industry expect this leakage would cause a great problem for the films’ sales. Especially for the Hateful Eight, its script leaked online in 2014.

Hive-CM8, a piracy group claimed responsibility for the leaks of the screeners.

The leaks of screeners are becoming common cases before movie awards such as Oscars, the voters who receive the screeners before its official release for consideration gets it leaked by having the voter’s computer hacked or, physically having the DVD or Blu-ray disc stolen.

Recent victims of the leak were “The Expendables 3” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones” season five premiere. Both were leaked online a few weeks prior to its official screening. To prevent the leak, HBO shifted its policy on advance DVD screeners, having it online streaming only.
