South Korean police will operate undercover forces to monitor traffic law violations. It will be near impossible to spot the undercover operatives because the monitoring will be carried out by normal cars, not police patrol cars.

Police officials announced Tuesday that the monitoring will be adopted as a normal procedure. It is aimed to ticket people who disobey the laws by driving too fast, or drive recklessly being a threat to other drivers.

Through a survey, police had defined the five main behaviors they should look out and take actions against. Running lights, cutting in, motorcycles driven in sidewalks, violation of designated lanes and tail biting in intersections to force through even if the lights have changed.

The police will run a trial period, and in the same time will run a survey online and offline to gather citizens’ opinions on the new monitoring of traffic violations.

According to the police officials, 24 countries among OECD members have already adopted the undercover monitoring method.
