“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (TFA) is strong with force in China. The epic Sci-fi movie accumulated U.S$ 53 million on its opening weekend – breaking the record for the nation’s the highest earnings on opening weekend.

As TFA rocked box offices around the globe, skeptics wondered if the chronological film will get the same love of movie lovers in China as well as the rest of the world. Skepticism arose from the fact that there were no official versions of original Star Wars film released n China.

But the worries soon faded. Prior to opening, the franchise’s owner Disney ran series of promotions, including an event which 500 Stormtroopers gathered in on the Great Wall of China, and the media giant’s marketing effort paid off.

TFA became the third most commercially successful movie in the world’s film history. The first is 2009’s Avatar, followed by Titanic on the second.
