Netflix, one of the largest media streaming services, is going to block virtual private network (VPN) proxy servers which let its users access contents which are not available in their countries due to restrictions and regulations.

The streaming giant went global last week, started service in 190 countries over the world. Netflix announced on Thursday via its official blog “We are making progress in licensing content across the world and, as of last week, now offer the Netflix service in 190 countries, but we have ways to go before we can offer people the same films and TV series everywhere.”

Experts of the industry see Netflix’s move against VPN is very reasonable because its users probably won’t need the VPN anymore.

Before Netflix went global, users outside its serviced countries used VPN to access Netflix’s contents. VPN fools the media server to think that the user is connected to the service within their serviced areas. Although connection quality was sometimes poor and very slow, users were satisfied by the fact that they could enjoy the latest contents.

Blockage of VPN is bad news for users in countries which are not serviced by Netflix will not be able to access its services. China is one of the countries which are not serviced by Netflix.
