Rumors had loomed for weeks that idol group KARA is to disband, its members going separate ways. Now it’s official. KARA’s agency DSP Media confirmed the news on Friday.

Three of four KARA members’ contract was due to expire by February 2. But Goo Hara, Han Seung-yeon, and Park Gyu-ri did not renew the contract, which led to the premature expiration of their contract.

“Goo, Han, and Park have decided to expand their activities into other fields as the contract expired,” said the agency in a statement. “We wish the best in their upcoming endeavors.”

With the trio leaving, Heo Young-ji is the only member of KARA left for now. DSP Media stated that the agency will try its best to help Heo to develop as a singer.

Goo, who had been active in Japan and China than she was in South Korea is likely to find another agency with strong international presence. Han and Park are believed to be in searching for agencies which could back their acting careers.

KARA, which made its debut in 2007, is one of very first girl-groups that led the girl-group dominating paradigm in the South Korean entertainment industry. Many fans are devastated by the news of KARA’s disbanding, but however, the fan clubs wished the trio’s best and welcomed their decision.
