South Korean rapper Psy's "Gangnam Style" set a fresh YouTube record Wednesday with more than 2.5 billion views, only five months after it broke 2.4 billion views, his management agency, YG Entertainment, said.

His "Gangnam Style" music video, which went viral globally after its release in 2012, was viewed 2.51 billion times as of 8:00 am local time (2300 GMT), followed by "Gentleman" with more than 920 million views.

Psy has retained his status as South Korea's most famous pop idol with his seventh album featuring "Daddy", a fast dance track with a catchy hook featuring the voice of fellow YG idol star CL of 2NE1, and "Napal Baji", a retro disco dance song.

"Daddy" topped Billboard's World Digital Songs chart in December and has already surpassed 100 million views on YouTube just in two months of its release.
