The opening of the eighth episode of Star Wars saga had been delayed to December 15, 2017. The previous date set for its opening was May 26, 2017.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (TFA), the seventh episode which was released on December 18, 2015, recorded the third highest grossing movie worldwide. Its current accumulated global sales at U.S$ 1.88 billion.

TFA had been the hit worldwide and also gained overwhelming popularity in China. The film was released on January 11, and on its ninth day of its opening, the film recorded accumulated sales of $ 100 million. Considering that the Chinese Yuan currency had dropped, TFA did a remarkable job.

China was the hidden world from the Star Wars franchise since TFA is the first of its series to be officially released.

While many of Star Wars fans are disappointed, Disney had not yet released a reason why. The studio also shifted the release of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” to May 26, 2017, which is about two months earlier than it was previously scheduled.
