Due to flight delays caused by severe snow storm over Jeju Island, tens of Chinese tourists protested against a Chinese airline company on Saturday at Jeju International Airport, for not being fully prepared in providing proper accommodations.

Over 6,000 people were stranded at Jeju International Airport. Severe weather condition caused by heavy snowfall and strong air turbulence was the problem. 300 flights were delayed and nearly 2,000 people stayed at the airport for to be enlisted on the waiting list for tickets, which were issued by order.

Among the stranded, 400 were Chinese tourists waiting for the Chinese airline company to provide them with proper accommodation as promised. But protesting began when a group of tourists from Harbin was provided with accommodation while the tourists from Shanghai weren’t.

According to Eco-TV’s report, Shanghai’s group waited more than 12 hours, but the airline company provided the accommodations to Harbiners with priority.

An angry tourist entered the company’s counter while throwing a chair against a wall. Soon the group from Shanghai fiercely protested against the airline company. The situation resulted in 15 police officers being inserted into the scene.

However, the tourists avoided a mass confinement after the company had acquired proper accommodations for all of the tourists.

Kang Ho-in, the Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport made a statement on Monday, ordering the airline companies regarding the situation in Jeju to minimize any inconveniences caused by the flight delays and quick responses for those who need help.
