Taiwanese and Chinese rivals have expanded their clout in the global TV market last year, but South Korean firms maintained their status as the top Ultra HD panel makers in the fourth quarter of last year.

Globally, 11.25 million UHD TV panels were sold in the October-December period, down 2.4 percent from the previous quarter, according to data compiled by market watcher IHS.

LG Display sold 3.98 million UHD TV panels, cornering 35 percent of the global market, while the market share of second-runner Samsung Display stood at 25 percent with 2.79 million units.

Over the same period, the two South Korean firms accounted for 60 percent of the global UHD TV market.

Taiwan's Innolux placed third with 1.44 million units and AU Optronics fourth with 1.2 million units, followed by Chinese firms.
