"VR is the next platform where anyone can experience anything they want. It's going to change the way we live and work and communicate."

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg told the audience at the Samsung Press Event held on Sunday, at Mobile World Congress 2016, in Barcelona, Spain. Zuckerberg always had been a fan of virtual reality (VR).

“Sharing” is the key potential which Zuckerberg saw in VR industry. “Pretty soon we’re going to live in a world where everyone has the power to share and experience whole scenes as if you’re just there, right there in person,” he said.

“Imagine being able to sit in front of a campfire and hang out with friends anytime you want. Or being able to watch a movie in a private theater with your friends anytime you want. Imagine holding a group meeting or event anywhere in the world that you want.” Zuckerberg described.

“All these things are going to be possible. And that’s why Facebook is investing so much early on in virtual reality. So we can hope to deliver these types of social experiences.”

Because of the potential he saw in VR, Zuckerberg spent a lot of Facebook’s money to buy Oculus Rift, a startup company which had great ideas on creating VR devices. Now Oculus Rift is scheduled to ship its retail version of VR headsets this year.

The CEO also pointed out that more than 20 million videos have been uploaded onto Facebook already and hundreds more are uploaded daily, and how people spent more than a million hours watching video using Samsung’s Gear VR.

Zuckerberg introduced Facebook’s plans to boost its VR ability with Gear VR. The social network plans to bring powerful dynamic streaming for 360 video to Gear VR. The video played on Gear VR will load faster and clearer. Video resolution will be boosted up to four times.

Facebook already formed up a special VR team to study how people get connected and share using the current VR tech. The team’s goal is to find out what changes are needed to meet the future users' goals.
