It was an event prepared by enthusiastic fans of the “Figure Queen” Kim Yuna. Some fans gathered to celebrate the former world figure skating champion’s commemorative moments by donating a small sum of money to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday.

Then the unexpected happened. A user from a South Korean online community “DCinside” uploaded a post with a screenshot. “I was making donations to UNICEF and Kim Yuna appeared from nowhere, made a donation of KR\ 50 million (approximately US$ 40,433).” The user wrote.

Yuna’s name was among the donator’s list captured in the screenshot. The post spread across social networks with incredible speed. Many social networks were skeptical if the donator is really the figure queen, and the head of Yuna’s fan site confirmed via All That Sports, Yuna’s agency that it truly is the queen who made the donation in a large sum.

The donation event was originally prepared by the fans from DCinside and official fan site to celebrate Kin Yuna’s first gold medal which she won at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Fans have decided UNICEF would be the right organization to make donations to. The donation event will end on February 26.
