Miljenko Matijevic, the lead vocal of US-based rock band Steelheart, extended thanks to South Korean fans after he wore a mask to make a surprise appearance at a popular weekend mystery TV music show.

"Thank you all for your love and support, I am beyond appreciative! My performance ... was great fun and the response was overwhelming!!," the 51-year-old hard rocker said in his Instagram post.

It was his first TV appearance in South Korea since he joined Bad Boss, a local entertainment company, in January.

Matijevic is popular in South Korea's rock music community for his song "She's Gone", which was released soon after the band was formed in 1990.

He showed his impressively wide vocal range, singing Korean songs in Korean at King of Mask Singer, a singing competition program presented by MBC on Sunday, in which competitors are given elaborate masks to wear in order to conceal their identity, thus removing factors such as popularity and age that could lead to prejudiced voting.

The winners of each round are selected by the audience and panel of judges through instant live votes.

Matijevic took off his mask after he was eliminated in the third round, but he was given a special chance to sing his hit song "She's Gone" that moved a surprised audience to enthusiasm.
