Korean drama star Park Hae-jin is to visit Japan to participate in the promotion of a hit drama “Cheese in the Trap”.

Park’s agency announced on Friday that the drama will be aired on Mnet Japan from April, and Secondary airing will be carried out by another broadcasting company in August. “Park is excited about the news of Cheese in the Trap being aired in Japan,” the agency said, “He is dearly waiting for to meet Japanese fans.”

Cheese in the Trap is a South Korean cable drama based on a popular web cartoon. It not only gained popularity in Korea but also brought a sensation across China scoring 1.93 billion views on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Facebook or Twitter

Helped by the growing popularity of actor Park Hae-jin among Chinese fans, the tvN drama was sold to China's largest video websites, Youku and Tudou, for two million US dollars, the highest price in the history of South Korean cable drama exports.

The drama showing the real life of South Korean college students will be streamed on Youku and Tudou this summer, but Chinese fans have viewed pirated versions or downloaded them illegally.

Park has been popular in China for his role in "My Love from the Star" in 2013. He will attend Youku's 2016 brand show on March 10.

Meanwhile, Park is to hold a fan meeting at SK Handball Stadium, Seoul Olympic Park in April. More than 40,000 people gathered on the first day of the pre-registering online event and maintained the hype throughout the event schedule.
