South Korea's GS Engineering & Construction said Tuesday it has clinched a 1.46 billion US dollar contract to build what it called the world's largest rail-and-bus depot in Singapore.

The builder said the contract was signed with Singapore's Land Transportation Authority on Monday. GS plans to complete construction of the four-in-one facility integrating train depots for three subway lines and a bus depot in February 2024.

GS said a 1.45-kilometer-long tunnel would be constructed to connect the subway lines, describing the four-storey vehicle depot as the world's largest of its kind. It will be built in an area spanning 320,000 square meters near Changi Airport to house 985 subway cars and 815 buses.

GS Engineering has been involved in a number of subway projects in Singapore worth 3.2 trillion won, including the East Coast Integrated Depot project.

Meanwhile, Samsung C&T said it had won a 737 billion won ($633.32 million) order to build a station and tunnels for the Downtown Line 3 Extension from the LTA.

Earlier this month, Samsung C&T won a $321 million contract to build a new law courts complex in Singapore by 2019. The new State Courts Towers will accommodate more than 60 courtrooms and 50 hearing chambers. The new complex is expected to be completed in 2019.
