During the company's Keynote event on Tuesday, Apple released information about "Liam", an iPhone disassembling robot, which pulls apart iPhones into separate parts ideal for recycling.

Apple spent some time talking about the company's aim to save the environment. The video of Liam in action shows how an iPhone is dismantled and its parts saved for use in future devices and recycling. It only takes about 11 seconds to tear down an iPhone.

According to Apple, the goal of Liam is to get all useful materials taken out of iPhone as efficiently as possible. There are precious metals such as gold, copper, and cobalt used to build an iPhone, and if parts containing such minerals are recycled, it will cut costs as well as reducing ethical concerns.

Liam consists of 29 moving robot parts and can disassemble 350 iPhones per hour. It is also able to multitask at some points, which means an iPhone's display can be taken out while having its screws being pulled out of its main board.

For now, Liam can only dismantle iPhone 6, but Apple aims to further expand Liam's dismantle abilities to newer models.
