South Korea's Olympic vault champion Yang Hak-seon has injured his Achilles tendon during a practice, clouding his hope of competing at this year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, his team said Thursday.
Yang's club in the southern city of Suwon said the 2012 Olympic gold medalist was hospitalized after suffering an injury Tuesday at a state training center in Seoul.
It's not known when Yang will go back to the training camp as an Achilles tendon injury requires a long period of treatment. He has been regarded as one of South Korea's most promising gold medalists in the Rio Olympics.
Yang, 23, is the first South Korean gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal in London. He won silver at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon because of a hamstring injury.
