AmorePacific, South Korea's top cosmetics maker, opened the flagship store of its luxury brand Sulwhasoo Wednesday, following the brand's record sales last year.

The four-story building in Seoul's affluent Gangnam district is South Korea's largest flagship beauty store for a single cosmetics brand. The boutique store offers spa services and consulting services. It also gives tax refunds to foreign customers.

Launched in 1997, Sulwhasoo has enjoyed popularity at home and across Asia. Its annual sales hit a record high of one trillion won last year, helped by brisk sales in China.

The product uses ingredients that are highly regarded in oriental medicine such as peony, foxglove, and lily, and this appealed to Chinese consumers.

AmorePacific saw revenues soaring 20.1 percent on-year to 5.7 trillion won in 2015. Sales surged 52 percent in Asia and 39 percent in North America. The company said Sulwhasoo aims to become Asia's top brand this year.

Cosmetics products were the most popular item for on-line exports, with their sales rising 16 percent on-year in 2015, according to data from eBay Korea, an e-commerce company.
