Actor Song Joong-ki, the star of South Korea's mega-hit drama "Descendants of the Sun", was happy after realizing his long-cherished dream of sitting in a television newsroom.

"I'm happy just now," Song said in a live interview during his appearance Wednesday on the prime evening news program of South Korea's major state-run KBS television.

He was the first celebrity from South Korea's entertainment circle to appear in KBS 1TV's 9 pm (1200 GMT) news program.

"As I sit in this studio, I feel like realizing my other dream," Song said, adding he once had hoped to become a TV announcer.

"Descendants of the Sun" is a 16-episode long drama telling a love story between an army captain and a female doctor, who are on a mission together in a fictional war-torn country called Uruk to save lives. Unlike other Korean dramas, it was pre-produced

It was Song's first TV work since he completed his military duty last year. It has been enjoying explosive popularity, creating a sensation in South Korea and other Asian countries.

His popularity has been phenomenal in China since the drama premiered on February 24 simultaneously in South Korea and China. South Korean and Chinese tourists are rushing to the filming spots to reenact the romance between Song Joong-ki and his female partner.

Song expressed embarrassment about an explosive rise in his popularity across Asia saying he does not deserve such a fame and "feels responsible as a Hallyu (K-pop culture) star".
