Facebook, one of the world's largest social media, launched a special service for blind users of its smartphone app. The social media giant applied AI technology to describe photographic images to the blind users.
Blind users can read the text-based timeline posts with a help from a smartphone they use or the app itself. But as the majority of timeline posts include photographic images, it's near impossible for the blind users to fully understand other people's posts.
To help the blind users, Facebook used its AI technology to understand what is in the photographic images uploaded by other users and describe it to the blind users. The service only works in English and with a limited concept. It is currently only available on the iOS.
