South Korea aims to finish in the top 10 in the medal race with at least 10 gold medals at this year's Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, sports officials said Wednesday.

The target was disclosed by Korea Football Association head Chung Mong-gyu, who will lead South Korea's Olympic delegation, at a news conference marking the 100-day countdown at the National Training Center.

Chung said South Korean athletes would do well in archery, shooting, fencing, judo, golf and taekwondo in Rio to earn more than 10 gold medals.

"Our goal at the upcoming Olympics is to win more than 10 gold medals and finish in the top 10," he said.

At the 2012 Olympics, South Korea finished fifth in the medal standings with 13 gold, eight silver, and seven bronze medals in fencing, shooting, archery, judo and other events. South Korean athletes dominated in archery, winning gold medals in all but one events. They also won a medal in team fencing for the first time.
