South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries said Tuesday it has clinched a 387 million US dollar deal to build a desalination plant capable of producing about 270,000 tons of fresh water a day in Kuwait.

Doosan said it has received an order from Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity & Water to build the plant for 460 billion won ($387 million). Construction will be completed in November 2018, and Doosan will be in charge of the plant's operation and maintenance in the next five years.

Doosan said the order demonstrated its competitive edge in the construction of desalination facilities because it beat competitors from France and Spain. The new deal came after the South Korean company completed the construction of a similar desalination plant in the port of Shuwaikh in 2008.
