A US cargo plane run by UPS, the world's largest package delivery company, has skidded off the runway at South Korea's main gateway west of Seoul, damaging facilities for air traffic, airport authorities said Tuesday.

The incident was caused by a broken landing gear at 10:48 pm (1348 GMT) on Monday when the plane was taxing on one of the three runways at Incheon International Airport, said the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.

There were no casualties as five crew members escaped safely, the ministry said in a statement, adding the plane operated by Atlanta-based United Parcel Service had carried about 100 tons of cargo on a flight from Incheon to Anchorage.

TV footages showed the plane's nose hitting the ground at the foot of the runway.

The transport ministry said 14 guiding lights and six "localizer" antennas used for automatic landing have been damaged. Air traffic, however, has been normal as planes used two other tracks.

It will take three days to unload fuel and cargo from the plane and three months to restore the damaged facilities, the ministry said.
