A young woman has dropped a suit against South Korean K-pop idol Yoochun, but a police investigation continues into an alleged rape case in the bathroom of a private membership bar in Seoul's most affluent Gangnam district.

No reason was given why the 24-year-old bar employee changed her mind overnight.

Police said she retracted her earlier claims that she had been raped in the bar's bathroom in Gangnam, known for rapper Psy's "Gangnam Style" music video which went viral globally after its release in 2012.

In her original suit, the woman argued she was assaulted before dawn on June 4 while the two were drinking at one of the bar's private rooms. She had reported to police, presenting her underwear as evidence.

The suit was dropped but police would not stop their investigation. If they find evidence related to a sexual assault, the singer-actor could face criminal charges and a jail term that could lead to the termination of Yoochun's career as a popular K-pop artist.

He had maintained a clean image before he started his mandatory two-year military service last August as a public service worker in the district office.

Yoochun has been silent, but his agency, C-JeS Entertainment, insisted in a statement on Tuesday that the suit was based on false accusations. The agency accused the woman of making false claims for "malicious blackmailing".
