South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Tuesday called for a tight defense against possible attacks by the Islamic State jihadist group and North Korean terrorists.

Park told a cabinet meeting that South Korea is not a safe place from attacks by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), citing a recent intelligence report. She also warned North Korean terrorists, with direct or indirect links to international terrorist groups, could attack South Korea.

"South Korea is no more safe from terrorist attacks," she said, adding several foreigners who used to live in South Korea were found to have joined the ISIL.

Park's warning came after the National Intelligence Service said the IS has designated US installations in South Korea as targets for attacks after obtaining location data from its own hacking group. Some 28,000 US troops are stationed in South Korea.

IS has repeatedly issued threats against countries, including the United States and its ally South Korea. Seoul has deported some 50 foreigners with links to terrorist organizations over the last five years.
