Google has a tradition of naming its Android operating system versions after the names of desserts in an alphabetical order. On Thursday, the tech giant released an official name for its Android N (nougat -- a chewy confectionery filled with nuts and honey).

Google said on its tweeter account: "We asked for your help to ‪#‎NameAndroidN‬. Say hello to ‪#‎AndroidNougat‬ & watch the unveiling. ‪#‎AndroidNReveal‬ https://youtu.be/8xn9iq3lG_w".

Before its official release, Google had asked users to propose the names for the Android N. "Nutella" received positive feedbacks but Google surprised people by selecting the dessert's name, though many find it hard to pronounce.

Below is a list of Android OS versions' nicknames
- Cupcake: Android 1.5

- Eclair: Android 2.0-2.1
- Froyo: Android 2.2
