Kia Motors launched new models for 'K5', the company's best-selling midsized sedan. The new K5s feature new designs and installments, such as new transmission and latest tech gadgets to provide a fully enjoyable driving experience.
The country's second-largest carmaker held a media event at Interwired Studio in Seoul's Gangnam district Tuesday and introduced a lineup of "2017 K5" and "K5 PHEV". Also, Kia unveiled two new special trims to the new K5, "Signature" and "GT-Line".
Kia described the Signature as a trim with emphasized luxurious design. The GT-Line trim features new dress-up parts to give it a sporty look. The 2017 K5 models are equipped with a new transmission called "K-Advanced Shift" that provides a smoother engine response and acceleration with reduced noise and vibration.
The Plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) version of K5 is also an eye-catcher. The eco-friendly vehicle runs in two modes: fully electric and hybrid driving which uses both an electric motor and an engine. Its 50 kW electric motor with 9.8 kWh battery and a 2.0 GDI engine generate a maximum output of 156ps and a maximum torque at 19.3kgf.m. (202ps when the electric motor and the engine are used simultaneously)
The K5 PHEV is able to run a maximum distance of 44 kilometers solely on its fully charged battery. Considering that an average commuter covers a distance of 30 to 40 kilometers a day, K5 PHEV would be an ideal and economic choice for everyday uses.
