Apple's iPhone will notify users if moisture is detected in its Lightning connector, a counterpart of the mini-USB connector on Android smartphones.

An interesting feature was spotted in the beta version of Apple's latest operating system (OS) "iOS 10", used in iPhones and iPads. The new feature will only be available for Apple's iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE. It is also very likely to be available for the upcoming iPhone 7 due to be released in September.

Compared to other smartphone makers which have released water-resistant phones, Apple has struggled or refused to keep up the trend, leaving iPhones and iPads vulnerable to moisture. Now experts speculate that reports and constant complaints by consumers led Apple to finally add a feature to warn them if their phones are in danger of short circuiting.

Meanwhile, water-resistant iPhones may not be something from a dream after all. In June, the US Patent and Trademark Office granted a patent for a liquid resistant acoustic device. Some experts pointed out that the patent is a reflection that Apple is preparing a water-resistant smartphone or a rugged version of iPhone.
