Newly leaked information showed the Apple's latest smartphone would be waterproof but not IP68 watertight. The IP68-level water resistant feature provides protection from the water up to being submerged in a depth of 1.5 meters underwater for 30 minutes.

A post uploaded onto Weibo, the Chinese counterpart of Facebook, allegedly contained information from a Foxconn insider. The post reads "iPhone7 than 6S more waterproof, but are still far from the level ip68".

Apple's iPhone series had everything the latest smartphones have to offer but the fact it was not water resistant has deterred many consumers from buying it. Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were released with the IP68 water resistant feature and the latest smartphones of some other brands also came with water resistant features.

But if the leaked information is legitimate, Apple's upcoming smartphone may provide a basic level of water resistance, allowing protection against a sudden shower of light rain or an accidental spill from a coffee cup.

The Weibo post also hints at the rumored black color added to the upcoming iPhone7. The post said: "Foxconn insiders say pure black looks good must hit." With a 3.5mm headphone jack to be removed definitely, it  would come with a touch home button instead of a physical button.
